StephenKozik.com: Soviet Tetris
December 2004
This was a just for fun project where I attempted to create a Tetris clone in flash using as few lines of actionscript as possible while still keeping some of the features from the most enjoyable Tetris ports that I had played in the past.
While trying to be efficient and create a flash game that could still run smoothly on older processors, I still wanted this Tetris game to have a sort of "hook" that would make it superior to the other web based Tetris clones I had seen. I decided to explore the Soviet side of tetris by using a good deal of cold war era imagery, music, and sounds. To enhance the KGB-esq feel I included some found art from communist propaganda posters and motivational sound bytes to encourage the player to play for extended periods of time to see what will happen next.
This project took a mere 2 days to complete and is the quickest I had ever completed a game project with this sort of scope. The source code for this game is released under the GPL (GNU Public License) and is available here. Much Mountain Dew was consumed in the creation in this game, however, no capitalists were injured during it's programming.
