Punch-o-Matic is an online tool developed for Punchstock (Getty Images) that allows graphic designers and members of the creative workforce to create rich online movies using Punchstock stock photography and illustrations.
- Users choose the size and aspect ratio of their movie from a template or enter custom dimensions
- From an image library of 5,000+ photos and illustrations, users can search keywords and select images by dragging and dropping them into a timeline where they can order them and set the length of time an image stays on screen
- With a text input widget users add titles to individual slides, choosing the color and effect with which the titles animate in the movie
- Users select animation effects for their photos by previewing an effect and dragging and dropping it onto the desired slide. Among these effects are Ken Burns photo pan and zoom, blocks, and the ever popular "Psychedelicize" that feeds an image through a process that makes the image act like an oil color wheel from the 1960's
- Choosing from a variety of transition effects, users decide how each slide with animate to the next
- Finally, the users select music to give their movie the final touch. They name their movie and receive a preview and special embed code that they can use to include it on their own website
All movies create with the Punch-O-Matic tool are included in the Punch-o-Matic Creative Gallery that features over 7,000 user created movies. With additional send to a friend viral features, this tool was a huge hit with users and the client. Written entirely in AS2 and featuring over 2,500 lines of code, Punch-o-Matic pushes the limit on what to except from a flash based application.
