Getting your Affairs in Order
Posted March 1, 2010 by Stephen Kozik
Now that my week off of work is over and I have a sense of renewed energy and accomplishment from writing and recording a whole record in one week flat, it's time to focus on the more mondane.
For one thing, I seriously need to ramp up my off-season workouts and get to the same point I was at the beginning of last year when I rolled into the first softball game hitting two homeruns and feeling great. It became clear to me after I started to lose power towards the end of the year that if you stop working out when the season is going you will eventually lose your gains. So this year I want to start out at an even higher level and keep it going by forcing myself to get off my ass and do a bit of work even when games are going on.
A painful (so to speak) example of how far I still have to go before mid-April was how winded and sore I was playing a pickup game at Irving last week. I remember feeling great at the start of last year, and I certainly didn't feel that way last Sunday. Granted, I felt good about my batting eye after a bad session of cage work, but I wasn't in very good shape for sure. Even my buddy Dan whom I play with in the country band said he jogged by the park that day and noted all the "out of shape guys" playing Softball. Yes Dan, I was one of those guys.
My next set of goals include some spring cleaning, a little work on the house, and making sure everything is in order for when I start having less free time because baseball starts and sucks me into it's prison-like-grip. A guaranteed 3 hours of my day will soon disappear as I watch games and discuss them on vivaelbirdos. I just can't quit you major league baseball, no matter how much time you steal from me.
